Groundhog Day for Kids

It is February 2nd, the Groundhog’s Day!

According to legend, the Groundhog will come out of his burrow to look for his own shadow on this day after a long winter sleep.

It is said that if the groundhog does not see its shadow, Spring will come early. On the flip side, if the groundhog sees a shadow, the Winter shall last for another 6 weeks.

Traditionally on this day, we observe groundhogs to predict the arrival of spring.

Sing the groundhog song with your kids to double the joy of welcoming spring!

Lyrics of “I’m a little groundhog” song:

I’m a little groundhog, furry and brown
I pop my head out of my hole & look around
But If I see my shadow, I’ll go back down
For 6 more weeks of winter underground

I’m a little groundhog, furry and brown
I pop my head out of my hole & look around
If I don’t see my shadow, I’ll stay out here
And you’ll have Spring early this year!
